Have you ever encountered patients of diverse cultural backgrounds, and felt unsure on how to best communicate with them? Are you curious about different ethnicities, cultures, and customs? In this course, we discuss just that and much more. Learn how culture is defined, perceived, and the so called “norms” surrounding popular culture. Additionally learn how diversity and culture are connected in the health care industry and how to be a more culturally competent massage therapist. The purpose of this course is ultimately to provide the student with the knowledge and awareness of their own cultural perceptions, while explaining tips and techniques they can use to be more effective in their interactions with patients/clients.

Transmittable Diseases

Transmittable diseases are capable of being passed from one person to another. Upon completion of this massage CEU, the student will be able to identify several transmittable diseases and the harm they can cause onto the human host. The student will also increase their knowledge on HIV/AIDS, and learn preventative measures for this disease that affects millions world wide. Key diseases to be discussed include HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, Pneumocystis, Tuberculosis, Influenza, malaria, cholera, the Zika virus, hantavirus, and leprosy.
